Welcome to lucky number 77 in the Gear Guide series by our friends at Vital BMX. We are excited to announce that Dan’s Comp has teamed up with Stew Johnson for the production of the first full length DVD for the Dan’s Comp team.  It’s a big undertaking to film a full length DVD and with a stacked team like ours, it’s going to be a big (and fairly long term) project, with mid-2013 set  for the release.    Asking Stew to do the project was an almost obvious choice.  He’s a legendary BMX videographer with dozens of titles under his belt, notably the NORA cup winning Anthem II DVD from last year and besides that, he’s just a cool dude in general.   Here’s what the man himself has to say about it:

“It’s an honor for me to be given this opportunity to work with one of the largest and most talented teams in BMX. I look forward to spending time on the road with some old friends as well as getting to know some of the younger guys on the Dan’s Comp team, this should be a pretty wild project.”

Stevie Churchill, Raul Ruiz and Tony Neyer have been filming with Stew in the Austin area, for the last couple of weeks.  Ben Hucke just arrived and Trey Jones comes to town tomorrow.  From there, it’s outward and upward.    You’ll be seeing updates and web edits all along the way.  Below are a couple photos from Stew to get things rolling.    In the words of Tony Neyer, “We in this!”

Here’s a new one of Dan’s Comp team rider Ben Hucke and his Portland buddy Codie Larson (with an extended Kevin Porter cameo) from a recent trip to LA.  Ben takes a beating for Aaron Nardi’s camera and it is well documented here.

The new Dan’s Comp catalog is out and has over 700 new items, as well as hundreds of the best bikes, frames, parts, shoes, clothing and safety gear items within its hallowed pages.   This is a big deal for several reasons.  1.  NO OTHER BMX retailer prints an actual catalog.  2.  Dan’s Comp has more BMX related products than anyone, anywhere.  3.  Dan’s Comp team rider Ben Hucke is on the cover with a whopper of a toothpick and inside the catalog is an interview with Ben about the photo, what it took to get it and his plans for 2012.  The interview with the cover rider is a new feature you’ll be seeing more of in future catalogs too.   If you don’t get the catalog, go here to see it on line and sign up to receive one in the mail (click the button in the top left corner).

New Dan’s Comp team rider Alex Magallan is blowing up the BMX world of late, with his Ride BMX cover, joining the new Ipath shoes team and now this new Iphone edit.  What it lacks in resolution, it makes up for in radical riding, Alex is a ripper.

For such a low key dude, Dan’s Comp team rider Nathan Willams has been very high profile lately.  That said, Nathan the human doesn’t actually appear in this bike check from Eclat, but the details of his bike are shown in a very artistic light.

It’s kind of a bummer to think about how many “injury update” type posts we’ve made in the last year about Dan’s Comp team rider Morgan Long, but if anyone can work through down time and come back better than ever, it’s Morgan.   From Vital BMX:

“A bunch of kids have been hitting me up online asking how the knee is doing, so I figured I would send over a update. I’m almost to eight weeks after surgery, so the hardest part is behind me. The last few weeks I’ve been hitting physical therapy two times a week which has been good. The therapist just gave me the OK to start pedaling the road bike, so I’ve been cruising by the beach a lot. It feels great to be out of the house more and at least pedaling a bike. Thanks to everyone for the online love.“
